Planet Crafter Wiki

Larvae are insects that appear when the planet reaches the Insects stage. They can be crafted in an Incubator, produced in an Ecosystem machine, or appear naturally in the wild. Wild larvae (up to 16 at once) will spawn over time around the player's current location, so if hunting the rarer varieties, one should travel slowly and be patient.

Types[]

There are 25 total species of larvae in game:

  • 3 species of base larvae
  • 2 species of industrial larvae
  • 20 species of butterfly larvae

Like all crafted items, finished larvae can be recycled in a Recycling Machine. If a player did not receive the desired larva from the Incubator, they may recycle it and try again without wasting resources.

Base Larvae[]

There are 3 species of base larvae. These larvae cannot be recycled or used to generate Insect mass. Instead, they are the base ingredient for all other larvae and those that can be crafted are made in the Biolab. Edit: Dec 2024: Cannot craft Uncommon Larvae.

Industrial Larvae[]

There are 2 species of industrial larvae. These larvae cannot be used to generate Insect mass, except as part of the Beehives. Their primary use is as ingredients in machines that produce useful resources for the player. They can be crafted in the Incubator.

Butterfly Larvae[]

All 20 butterfly types displayed in boxes, in alphabetic order from top-left.

All 20 butterfly types (as of v1.406) displayed in boxes. They are in alphabetic order, from top-left.

As of v1.404 there are 20 species of butterfly larvae. All of them may be placed in a machine to generate Insect mass.

Some butterfly larvae are uncraftable in the Incubator and can only be found in the wild. Two types of butterfly can only be purchased using the Space Trading Rocket on Planet Prime, though one of those two types can be found in the wild on Planet Humble. However, these can still be recycled to yield a Rare Larva, Mutagen, and Fertilizer.

Trivia[]

If you have a difficult time finding rare larvae, it may help to build an Auto-Crafter on top of a foundation grid, and use the auto-crafter's "objects within range" detection to spot larvae around you.
