Planet Crafter Wiki

Fuses are items that can be placed in Machine Optimizers to increase the output of other nearby machines.

Obtaining[]

Fuses can be found rarely in crates after reaching the Liquid Water stage, purchased via the Space Trading Rocket or found in Portal Generator areas. Trade rocket, insect, animals and growth fuses cannot be purchased. Energy, trade rocket, insect, animals and growth fuses can be crafted in the Quartz Craft Station (trade rocket, energy, animal and growth fuse recipes have to be unlocked first).

Usage[]

Machines[]

A fuse must be placed into a Machine Optimizer to have any effect. A fuse will boost the closest machines in range. There is no limit to the maximum number of fuses that can boost one machine. A fuse is limited to boosting the number of machines that the Machine Optimizer can support - 5 for T1 Machine Optimizer, and 8 for T2 Machine Optimizer.

Heat, pressure, energy, and plant fuses replace the machine's original 100% value, so one heat fuse will cause a heater to produce 500% of its original value. This is also the case for insect and animal machines that don't use items with percentage multipliers (e. g. beehives or Ecosystems). For machines that use seeds, Oxygen fuses add to the seed's value, so one fuse will cause an oxygen machine to produce an extra 500% of its original value. This may seem poor given that you can get seeds for up to 1300% but boosting a T3 Tree Spreader's oxygen still has a higher effect on your Terraformation Index than any other machine, assuming an equal number of rockets. For machines that use larvae, fish eggs, frog eggs or Creature DNA, Insect and Animal fuses also add to the item's value, so one fuse will cause an insect or animal machine to produce an extra 750% of its original value. Multiple fuses in one or more Machine Optimizers stack additively, so two heat fuses will increase heater production to 1000%, not 2500%, but this value is multiplicative with the multiplier from rockets.

Production and trade rocket fuses increase the speed of machines, reducing the time it takes for those machines to accomplish their tasks. For example, one production multiplier fuse will increase an T3 Ore Extractor's speed to 125%, reducing the time it takes to produce an ore to 80% of its original value or 60 s. More fuses increase the speed additively but have diminishing returns on the final time; two production multiplier fuses will increase an Ore Extractor T3's speed to 150%, reducing the time it takes to produce an ore to 67% of its original value or 50 s. See those fuses' sections for more details and examples.

Production Multiplier Fuse[]

Decreases production time of:

The production multiplier fuse does not actually provide a multiplier or divider to production machines. Instead, each fuse increases production speed by 25%. The time it takes for a production machine to produce an item is calculated by dividing the time by the production speed (time/speed). So with one fuse, speed is increased to 125%, leading to production taking 80% of the time. For an T3 Ore Extractor, that would reduce its production time from 75 seconds to 60 seconds. Another way of thinking of it is that each production fuse that affects eight machines is equivalent to building two more machines.

The table below shows a list of speed and time percentages along with the production time for Ore Extractor T3s for up to 24 fuses.

Formula = 75(s) / ( 1 + ( # of fuses * 0.25))

Growth Multiplier Fuse[]

Increases growth speed of:

Growth fuses boost crop growth speed of Food Growers and Outdoor Farms, algae growth speed of Algae Generators and plant growth speed of Grass, Tree and Flower Spreaders. Each growth fuse boosts the Growth Speed of a given machine by 25% of its original value. For example, 25% of an Outdoor Farm's original growth speed is 0.5 (its original growth speed being 2). This means that each growth fuse will boost that Outdoor Farm's growth speed by 0.5 (one fuse will increase growth speed to 2.5, two fuses will increase it to 3, three fuses will increase it to 3.5 and so on).

The effect from boosting the growth speed of Grass Spreaders, Flower Spreaders and Tree Spreaders is purely visual (plants and trees will grow faster) and serves no practical purpose. The terraformation values of these machines do not get affected by growth fuses in any way.

Trade Rocket Multiplier Fuse[]

Increases speed of:

As with the Production Multiplier Fuse, this fuse does not provide a multiplier or divider but instead increases the speed of the Space Trading Rocket and Interplanetary Exchange Shuttle. It has an unstated divider of 0.10 and cannot be purchased via the Space Trading Rocket, only found via crates in Portal Generator areas and crafted in Quartz Craft Station. One fuse will increase the rocket's speed by 10%, making it require 91% of the regular time or 545 seconds to complete a trip.

The table below shows a list of speed and time percentages along with the rocket/shuttle transit time for up to 24 fuses.

Optimal fuse usage[]

Heat, pressure, plant and energy fuses should be used on a single set of machines, up to the number of machines that the Machine Optimizers support (5 for T1 and 8 for T2). These boosted machines are much more efficient than unboosted machines, making the construction of unboosted machines relatively useless. For example, 5 T3 Heaters with a single heat fuse will produce the output of 25 unboosted Heater T3s. In other words, building another unboosted Heater T3 will only increase heat production by 4%. 8 T4 Heaters with 3 heat fuses will produce the output of 120 unboosted Heater T4s, and building another unboosted Heater T4 will only increase heat production by 0.83%. Boosting another set of machines also does not help, as you receive the same output from simply stacking the boosts without building extra machines. However when boosting oxygen-producing machines with seeds, insect-producing machines with larvae and animals-producing machines with fish eggs, frog eggs and Creature DNA, it doesn't matter which specific machines get boosted, as long as they are your highest available tier machines and the machine optimizer's full machine capacity is used, although it is usually more convenient to stack the boosts.

Production, growth and trade fuses are technically most optimal as soon as the machine optimizer's full machine capacity is used, but in practice should be used where needed. A player may need a lot of aluminum and so use the majority of production fuses on the Ore Extractors that are producing it, and then use the others spread out among the rest of the machines. In another case, players may be using a single Space Trading Rocket so may wish to focus their fuses on it instead of building a field of Space Trading Rockets to try to make the most out of the fuses.
