Planet Crafter Wiki

There are a number of caves, both large and small, scattered across the map for players to explore.

How to access caves and mines[]

Ice blocks cave

Ice blocking the Osmium Cave.

There are various caves on the map. At the beginning, many of them are blocked by ice, which melts away in stages as the player progresses in heating up the planet.

MISSING STAGES!

Caves have their own lighting, but a flashlight is still useful. All caves can be walked through without building structures or using a jetpack, but these are still useful in most of them.

Some additional caves (not detailed on this page) can be found within areas accessed via a Portal Generator.

Mining[]

Most caves are dedicated to a certain resource. Some of them can already be mined by a basic tier one Ore Extractor, some need a higher tier to do so.

Some caves do not feature enough soil to support any ore extractor at all. In those caves, the player can only harvest the resources by hand. Once done so, the cave is depleted, the resources won't grow back.

Small caves[]

Osmium Caves[]

There are four pure Osmium locations and two mixed ones (see below). All six of them also feature Sulfur and are initially blocked by ice.

Most Osmium caves are all rock and will not support extractors. The ones that do, need at least an Ore Extractor T2 to mine it.

Iridium Caves[]

Iridium can not only be found in caves, but also in the center of the Meteor Crater and all over the Volcano area. Mining it automatically in caves needs only an Ore Extractor T1.

Spoiler[]

The Rainbow Caves are a secret cave system located west of the Grasslands and north of The Highlands. They are aligned north of a canyon, which later on fills with water, forming a river.

It's not possible to put up any extractors there. Part of the caves are blocked by ice, which starts melting at the beginning of the Amphibians stage (425 GTi). This makes the Blazar Quartz and Solar Quartz unreachable before. (edit: I have 50 GTi and was there)
